What’s in a Name?

There are multiple legends regarding the Forget Me Not flower and how it received it’s name. One story dates back to the Creation of the World. As all the plants and flowers had received their names, one flower called to it’s Heavenly maker, stating “Forget me not, Lord” and God replied that would be it’s name and He would not forget this tiny flower.

There is also a legend told of a noble knight walking along a river bank with his lady when he saw the most beautiful blue flower on the other side of the river. He waded through the water, with much difficulty due to the weight of his armor, and retrieved a lovely bouquet for his love. When he began to walk across the river once more, a current swept him up and the weight of his armor was too much for him to right himself. Before he was lost, he tossed the bouquet of flowers to his lady and shouted, “Forget me not”.

This legend has allowed the Forget Me Not flower to be known for everlasting love and for remembrance for those that we have loved and lost. It is also a flower the Alzheimer’s Society has adopted as their logo due to it’s meaning of remembrance.

The profound meaning behind this special flower is what drove me to the name chosen. I feel passionate about preserving our past and creating memories that we will “forget me not”. It was easy to choose the “Forget Me Not” part of the name but was more difficult coming up with a word that would encompass all I wanted to do with this page. As I am a travel advisor and want my blog to be more than just travel, I thought the word “Journeys” was fitting. We may take journeys around the world but we also journey through life, in the big and small things we experience. Everything we experience and those of our ancestors, make us who we are today and they should not be forgotten.
